Sophie Sam (she/her) is an NYC based director and multi-hyphenate artist.
Sophie is the author of Buffering, a new play that recently received a reading with The Bechdel Group, and was a Semi-Finalist for SheNYC 2025. An excerpt of Buffering will be presented at Paper Kraine’s Do You Queer What I Queer? on June 25th. Tickets available here!
Recent directing credits include Pluto is Listening by David James Parr at Under St. Marks Theater, and Love is Blurry by Emily/BUBECK as part of SERIALS hosted at The Tank. Regional work includes Manic Pixie Nightmare by Kimi Handa Brown at the National Women’s Theatre Festival (Winner - Jury’s Choice for Best Direction), and the world premiere of The Question Game by Ashley Lauren Rogers at Trans Theatre Fest. Sophie will be directing The Comforter by Katherine Alberta at Daisy Theatrical’s Bloom Festival on June 1st. More info here!
As a trans artist, sophie is dedicated to telling stories that elevate and empower the voices of women and the LGBTQIA+ community.
As an actress, you can catch her in the award-winning webseries Northbound. She recently performed in a developmental reading of The Feminine Urge by Caleb Dukes with Daisy Theatricals at New York City Center.
She is an alumna of the National Theater Institute, and has a Bachelor of Science in Theatre and Entertainment Arts from Northern Michigan University.
Sophie is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild.
